Frequently Asked Questions

What temperature do I press DTF transfers at?

DTF transfers are typically pressed at 300-320°F (150-160°C) for 15-20 seconds with medium pressure. After pressing, peel the film while warm (warm peel) for best results.

What temperature is needed for sublimation?

Sublimation printing requires 385-400°F (196-204°C) for 45-60 seconds with firm pressure. The substrate must be polyester or polymer-coated for sublimation to work.

Can I use DTF transfers on polyester?

Yes! DTF transfers work on virtually all fabrics including polyester, cotton, cotton-poly blends, nylon, and more. This versatility is one of the biggest advantages of DTF over sublimation.

What pressure should I use on my heat press?

For DTF transfers, use medium pressure (about 40-60 PSI). For sublimation, use firm pressure (about 50-80 PSI). Too much pressure can cause issues like bleeding, while too little won't transfer properly.

Should I do a hot peel or cold peel for DTF transfers?

Most DTF transfers use a warm peel — remove the film while the transfer is still warm but not scorching hot. Wait about 5-10 seconds after pressing before peeling. Some specialty DTF films require a cold peel, so always check the instructions.

Why is my DTF transfer not sticking?

Common causes: temperature too low, not enough time, insufficient pressure, or moisture in the fabric. Make sure your heat press reaches the correct temperature, pre-press the garment for 3-5 seconds to remove moisture, and ensure even firm pressure across the entire transfer.
